The Annual General Meeting took place on May 7th, during the "Members' Day" at Banbury.  Three changes were made on the committee (Secretary, Librarian and Light Rail Section Co-ordinator), and a small increase in subscription has been proposed for membership year 2006 due to rising postal costs.
During the day, Patrick Grace's new H0 scale Swedish layout, Peterstorp (with DCC), was in operation, as well as Raymond Butler's N scale Finnish layout, Tarttila.  There was also a second-hand table.

    PRESS RELEASE

The Scandinavian Railways Society celebrates its 10th Anniversary at the Warley National Model Railway Exhibition, National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham International - Saturday, 4th and Sunday 5th December 2004

Formed in late 1993, the Scandinavian Railways Society was established as a special interest society for anyone interested in the fascinating railways of Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. We published the first edition of our journal Skandiapilen in 1994, so are delighted to celebrate our 10th Anniversary in 2004.

With the kind cooperation of Paul Jones, Exhibition Manager, the Society is delighted to support the Warley National Model Railway Exhibition at the NEC, with

  • a major display of Scandinavian railway model layouts,
  • models of Scandinavian railway locomotives and rolling stock,
  • a picture show of Scandinavian trains,
  • exhibits of products by manufacturers of Scandinavian railway models,
  • a scale modelling demonstration and
  • lots of information and encouragement to enthusiasts and modellers to find out what there is to see and model in Scandinavia.
  • It is believed to be the first occasion in the UK and, possibly, in the world, when model railway layouts representing Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland are exhibited together. They illustrate the striking charm of these countries, in which attractively designed trains run between great cities, smart towns and pretty villages, with big bridges, train ferries and beautiful countryside along the way.

Also supporting the Society's celebrations, with displays of their Scandinavian prototype models at the Exhibition, are model manufacturers Heljan, DJH, Hobbytrade and Brimalm (shown by Great Little Trains).

    Editor's Note:

  • The Scan Rail Soc is a non-profit making association of like-minded railway enthusiasts interested in the railways of Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. It provides an English language source of information for those interested in the prototype and modelling the prototype, both historically and the present era.
  • The Society has approximately 80 members. Most live in the UK, but the Society has members around the world; from the US, via Europe, to Australia.
  • The Society publishes a quarterly journal, named Skandiapilen after the named train that ran from Copenhagen to Oslo and seeks to assist members to obtain information for the development of their hobby interests.

  • 14th May 2004:- The SRS had a "Members' Day and Annual General Meeting" at Banbury on May 8th.  Besides the official business of reports and elections, it was a good opportunity to exchange news and views, and make the most of a "second-hand" table, test-track, and the Swedish "Steninge" H0-scale layout, which has recently passed ownership from Patrick Grace to Adrian Allum (and has thus stepped forward in time from the 1930s to 1990s)!

The information on the About the Society page has been updated, and a Membership Form is also now available for download. Stay tuned for more updates in the next few weeks.
